Your Engagement Session Should Feel Like a Date Night

Emma Peterson

Your engagement session doesn’t have to feel like another thing to check off your wedding to-do list.

In fact, I think it should feel like the opposite.

Think of it as a date night, just one where you happen to have a photographer tagging along.

Choose a place that feels like you. Maybe it’s your favorite little coffee shop, a trail you love to wander, the lake where you spend your summer evenings, or a new place you’ve been wanting to explore together.

Get dressed up if that feels like you. Or keep it simple. Grab a drink, take a walk, listen to music in the car, stop for ice cream, or find somewhere beautiful to watch the sun go down.

The best photographs happen when you forget you’re being photographed.

When you’re laughing at something only the two of you understand. When you reach for their hand without thinking. When you’re walking a little slower because you don’t have anywhere else to be.

That’s what I want your engagement session to feel like, a little pause in the middle of all the wedding planning. A chance to step away from timelines, decisions, and details and simply remember why you’re doing all of this in the first place.

So don’t worry about knowing how to pose or what to do with your hands. You don’t have to perform for the camera.

Just show up for each other.

We’ll wander, explore, slow down, and make photographs along the way.

Because your engagement session isn’t really about taking pictures.

It’s about spending an evening together, making a memory, and having something beautiful to hold onto from this season of your story.

Make it a date. I’ll bring the camera.
